The Why

Your kid can write their own story β€” not the one the world hands them.

A free space to rethink what your child really needs for the future that's coming. Read, watch, reflect β€” no pressure, no selling.

A child building their own idea
What we believe

We believe every kid can grow up to writetheir own story β€” who they'll be, what they'll do, what they'll have β€” instead of the one society's norms wrote for them.

So our mission is simple: teach kids to createvalue the world will pay for β€” building and running real businesses of their own, gaining the skills and confidence to make that story real.

The vision β€” the whyThe mission β€” the how
Two futures

Two paths for your kid

One isn't bad. It's just limited β€” and predictable. And predictable only feels safe when the world stops changing.

Two paths for a child's future
The conventional path

Follow the map everyone's given

  • Study hard, get good grades
  • Go to a good college
  • Land a stable, safe job
  • Trade hours for a paycheck
  • Hope the job still exists in 15 years
Write your own story

Learn to create value anywhere

  • Spot what people need
  • Build something real
  • Earn from the value you create
  • Adapt as the world changes
  • Never at the mercy of whether a job exists

The riskiest thing isn't trying something new. It's betting everything on a world that's already changing.

The world is changing

The β€œsafe path” was built for a world that's disappearing

Not doom β€” a heads-up. The ground under the traditional career is moving faster than school is.

The real risk no one talks about

The incentives don’t favor the β€œsafe” path.

Here’s something most people never notice. Start a business that fails? The law is built to give you a fresh start β€” bankruptcy can clear the debt so you can try again. Take on student debt for a degree that doesn’t pay off? There’s almost no relief. Student loans are nearly impossible to erase in bankruptcy β€” only about 0.01% of borrowers ever succeed β€” and unpaid loans can follow you for decades, even reducing your Social Security in retirement. It’s not a conspiracy. It’s just that the incentives quietly reward the person who builds something β€” and not the person who only took on debt.

β€œThe incentives reward the builder more than the borrower.”

The story that started it all

How a 9-year-old proved this really works

Everything on this page β€” the mission, the method, the belief that kids can create real value β€” started with one kid. The founder's own daughter. Here's that story, in his words.

Erik, founder of KidsGotBiz
A note from the founder
Erik β€” founder of KidsGotBiz
Valentina's dad

This isn't a theory I read in a book. It's the afternoon everything clicked β€” watching my own daughter turn a simple idea into real money, real confidence, and a whole new way of seeing herself.

She wanted something, and instead of reaching for my wallet, I asked a different question β€” one that changed how she saw the world: β€œWhat could you do that people would actually pay for?” What happened next is the reason KidsGotBiz exists.

β€” Erik
The girl who started it all

Meet Valentina.

She was 9 years old when she started her first real business β€” dragging her neighbors' trash cans to the curb for a few dollars a month. What began as one small idea became three years of running a real, growing business. This is her story.

1

The spark

My daughter, age 9, wanted money for something of her own. Rather than hand it to her, I asked the better question β€” and watched her mind start to turn.

2

The idea

She noticed neighbors dragging trash cans to the curb every week. What if she did it for them? A tiny problem, a real service, a genuine value proposition β€” the trash-valet business was born.

3

The build

She made flyers, walked the block, faced her first "no," and heard her first "yes." She learned to set a price and ask for the sale. Real selling, real rejection, real wins β€” the stuff school never teaches.

4

The operation

She taught herself a simple spreadsheet to track who paid and what she kept. Nine years old, running the numbers on a business that was entirely her own.

5

The shift

Somewhere in there, something changed in how she carried herself. That's when it hit me: this was never about trash cans. It's a method β€” one any kid can learn. And that's the day KidsGotBiz began.

β€œWait β€” people will really pay me for this?”

Real numbers, straight from her business

This isn't a one-summer side hustle β€” it's three years of a real, compounding business, run by a kid.

Every dollar Valentina has earned since her very first $9 customer β€” tracked in the same kind of app KidsGotBiz teaches kids to run.

Look closer: her first flyer lists the task β€” β€œtake the cans to the curb.” Her second sells the value β€” never forget again, and never trudge out in the cold, heat, rain, snow, or ice. In one year she went from describing what she does to what her customers get β€” and raised her price. That's the whole idea, and she figured it out on her own.

In her own words

Valentina, on what it was really like

β€œThe scariest part of starting was getting rejected. When someone finally said yes, I felt accomplished β€” like I could do anything.”

β€œThe first time I held money I earned myself felt amazing. I was so excited to save for something I really wanted.”

on her first paycheck

β€œThere was a moment I wanted to quit, but what kept me going was being able to spend my own money on things I wished I had.”

on pushing through

β€œI saved up to buy a piece of clothing I wanted. I felt so proud that I could afford it myself.”

on what she earned it for
Valentina today. Three years in, still running her route β€” out the gate, down the driveway, and off to the curb on collection day. The same simple service that started it all.

Every kid has a version of this story in them. Our whole platform exists to help you unlock it.

Valentina isn't special β€” she just got the right question at the right age. Every kid has their own version of this.

Own the company, don't just work for one

The trades: one of the clearest paths to owning your own business

Forget β€œget a safe trade job.” The real prize is the company itself β€” the electrical, HVAC, or plumbing business a kid learns young, masters, and then owns and runs. No degree. No debt. And a golden window: the owners running these companies today are retiring, and someone has to take their place.

The whole point
A trade is the on-ramp. The destination is a business with your name on the truck, a crew you employ, and profit that keeps coming in whether you swing the wrench that day or not. That's the millionaire path β€” ownership, not a paycheck.

Own the business

Start the company. Hire a crew. Now you keep the profit β€” that's where the real wealth is built.

πŸ’‘

Here's the head start most kids never get

Running a real business as a kid β€” even a tiny one β€” is practice for owning that company one day. A ten-year-old who finds customers, sets a price, tracks money in and out, and delivers on a promise is building the exact same muscles an adult uses to run a plumbing or HVAC business. By the time they're old enough to own the truck, they've already been the owner β€” just at a smaller scale.

That's what KidsGotBiz builds: the owner's mindset, years before it counts.

The 3 companies a kid could own, the numbers, and why AI makes them safer.

Trades are one path. Ownership fits some kids more than others β€” it depends how they're wired.
